Those pining for a return to the times of A Blaze In the Northern Sky will again be disappointed. Darkthrone has left behind black metal like a first generation iPod. Those who have enjoyed Darkthrone's Motorhead/Black Flag hybrid of recent years will appreciate Circle The Wagons. The riffs are basic but workmanlike; the songs seethe with anger yet have a sense of humor and the tone is earthy and warm. Fenriz and Nocturno Culto never disguise their contempt for contemporary metal with choruses like: "I am the graves of the 80s...destroy this modern metal!" And they never forget that metal doesn't always have to be challenging - it can also just be fun.

KRALLICE - DIMENSIONAL BLEEDTHROUGH [2009]

"Krallice is a New York-based black metal project featuring the guitar work of notorious progressive/experimental metal musicians Colin Marston (Behold… the Arctopus, Byla, Indricothere and others) and Mick Barr (Crom-Tech, Orthrelm, Octis and others), along with Nick McMaster and Lev Weinstein of death metal band Astomatous.
The musical style of Krallice could be described as fairly clean by black metal standards, with long, dynamic songs containing some disctinctive progressive metal influences. They’ve been compared to Weakling in some ways, although their music focuses much more on progressive song structures and less on the dissonant droning of Weakling’s Dead as Dreams. The band started in 1994 as a solo project, with Vindsval playing all instruments under the name Vlad. He released two demos under this title before changing the projects name to Blut Aus Nord before the release of Ultima Thulée in 1995. The next three albums were recorded with the aid of session musicians: It is only recently that the group has had any permanent members apart from Vindsval (who also played in The Eye).
